I am very interested in a Fiat 500 which is in my local garage. New. 1.2 Sport. I test drove the demonstrator and liked it and am almost sold on it. I don't know a great deal about the new 500. Has anyone had problems with theirs? Are they reliable? Are they safe? Are they fun to drive? I live in a remote area where the roads are quiet and narrow. I know the old 500s were brilliant on cornering and were lots of fun to drive and I suppose I am apprehensive that I won't find this new one as much fun.
Any advice would be appreciated as if I do decide to buy it I will be bringing it home on Monday.
Buy it....buy it....buy it!!
Any problems? Only one I had was with the Blue & Me media player.....needed an upgrade about 3 months after I bought it brand new....(this seems to be most popular problem)
Are they reliable? I've had no problems......
Are they safe? 5* N-CAP rating.....can't get much safer other than living in a big ball of cotton wool!!
Are they fun? Oh boy, oh boy......yes, yes, yes.......!! I do a combination of motorway & cross country driving every day & it's just as fun on both.....very easy to drive.....& mine's a 1.3 mjet diesel.....it's got SO much umph for a 1.3!
I think the majority of owners on here, don't have problems with the car....just the dealers/sales service.
Hope I've helped?!
Hiya !
What you waiting for... grab it before it goes !!!
Seriously now... I had an old 500 which I loved to pieces... and I love Cadbury too ! Cadbury is a 1.2 Lounge and is now 18 months old... check out PHOTOS ONLY. Having had my Fiesta written off by a lorry, I chose the 500 for it's NCAP rating and it has 7 airbags. She has not let me down yet so I would say reliable. She has a big ego, fun to drive and, for me, she seems like a tardis inside compared to outside. Very nippy around town and on the motorway, which is good as I can get passed those blooming lorries.
Only issue I have is with the brakes, had the pads deglazed but the sound is still there. Microphone is being changed shortly and I have had the front washer replaced.
Let us know how you get on !
Just read your note Zana about dealers/sales service...
My dealer is superb, GLYN HOPKINS ST ALBANS. Went to the new local Fiat dealer in Dunstable once and once was enough. Went back to Glyn Hopkins only two days ago. No problems from this dealer plus they have quite a few new and used 500s if anyone is interest !
cadbury stop picking on trucks ,if you didn't drive in to one you'd still gave your fieste lol...you brakes will make a noise as you never use it ...zana will back me up lol what's your milage ???
buy a punto ignore those two ..lol
phil
Don't tell Zana... but I am going to reach 10,000 miles tomorrow...
hi
for once i'll be serious ..why don't you book a couple of lessons ,with B.S.M ..(a) you will see if you do want to drive again .(b) they now use the 500,so you get a good road test ....make sure that the instructor does have a 500 first ,as some may still have their older vauxhalls....hope thats of some help
phil, I think the idea about going out in a BSM 500 is a really good idea!
16,000 + now on Freddie.....only 8 months old, poor thing........can't wait to move closer to work!
thanks zana ,yes i do have the odd moment ....there's nothing to stop anyone with a license, who may feel unsure of driving for whatever reason getting a few lessons ...plus point ,no family breathing down your neck ,knocking poor confidence rather than helping build it...
your milage is on par with mine ,i'm on 43,000 and 3 years 8months old ..and would say trouble free miles...i do put my hazards on occassionally , just to make sure they still work ,as never needed them lol
That is a good idea, Phil. I might do that. I do actually still drive, just don't enjoy it the way I used to. My driving involves going to the local Co-op (half a mile away) if I can't talk hubby into going for me. He gets car sick so if we were driving down the side of Loch Lomond or up to Inverness then he would have to drive or he would feel terrible when we got there. He gets sick with everyone so it isn't my driving.
I test drive the Fiat and loved it.
You are all clocking up the miles on your cars and not having any problems so that must be good. The garage (don't know if it is just that one or if they are all doing it) is offering 3 years "free" servicing. Ok I would have to pay for oil and parts I presume and the road fund licence is only £35 compared to £150 I am paying at the moment so basically almost cost free motoring.
I am getting more and more sold on the idea though.
cadbury knows more about the servicing ,from previous threads ,it doesn't appear to be as good as it sounds ,think there is a catch.....can't you walk to the co-op lol..ref car sickness ,sleeping pills ,or some beer from the co-op should cure it,,will advice unless the car is doing a lot of motorway milage ,don't get the diesel...as the particulate filter doesn't get a chance to regenerate ,if doing city stop start driving.....,and can cause problems ..is generally the same for all manufacturers...there are some problem cars out there ,again like all manufacturers..the main problem is the dealer network, unfortunately the majority who are useless ,are giving the good ones a bad name ..i think you may be dealing with one of the worst A.C
glad you liked the though of a few lessons
p.s a club hammer also helps car sickness
Hmmm - walk anywhere? Nah - whatever it is I don't need it that badly. The one I am interested in is a 1.2 petrol. Our nearest motorway is 100 miles away so I don't do any motorway driving. Both our cars at the moment are diesel and the Megane constantly comes up with the message to Regenerate Soot Filter or some rubbish like that. Don't think there would be any benefit in me getting the diesel for the miles I do.
Hubby thinks the booze idea is great but I don't fancy swapping car sick for booze sick. Same "outcome" anyway. The club hammer sounds like a definite possibility. When the police come to arrest me can I claim you recommended it and that he was definitely feeling car sick while sitting on the settee?
