500 bodywork and glass problem. Any ideas?
Hi, im not sure ive written this in the right place so sorry if i havent. My husband bought me a a beautiful black 1.2 lounge that we collected on the 1st of march. We travelled 60 miles to collect it as we were told by the dealer it was the only way we could have it without a 12 week wait as it was a cancelled order and gonna be " His sale". We did see a local dealer who tried to get the other one to release it from the system or something but he wouldnt have it so cut a long story short my husband put down a deposit and we waited a week to collect it. We were so excited to get it and drove the long 60 miles home with a very tired toddler in the back. when we were nearly home we noticed as the sun shone through the glass that there was a strange residue or something on the windscreen that wouldnt wipe away. When we finally got home we realised that all the glass chrome and body work down one side is covered in a rough sand like layer that wont wash off. We rang the dealer who said to pop it next time were around! We went to the local dealer to see if he could identify it. He didnt no but agreed it was bad. He also tried to remove some but couldnt. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Someone suggested it could of been next to another car being sprayed or something about it not having the protective covering washed off. If this correct can it really of been treated with the supagard treatment we had to pay £340 for? We were told if we wanted this we would also have to pay it as they had already put it on. Feeling very let down. The dealer was very helpful before we paid our money but now we are being made to feel like were bothering him. He is always busy when my husband rings and his tone has changed, the last thing he said to us was he already hasnt made any money from this sale. I thought dealers all made money from the sale of a brand new car. He is also telling us it is a valeting issue not a normal problem. Oh the eco drive doesnt work also. We have tried everything but end up with error 10 and the voice doesnt talk properly when a usb stick is fitted. All the excitement of buying a new has gone with a feeling of regret. I would really appreciate any ideas or advice. My husband is having to drive the 60 miles on saturday just so they can look at it. Would be nice to know what should happen in these circumstances. Thank you

    hi

it doesn't matter if they didn't make any money, which  he will have ...he still has a responsibility ...do you know wht it was a  "cancelled order?" ..personally i'd reject it and just suffer the 12 week wait ...the  suggestion of it being stood beside another vehicle being painted, sounds probably ,then again ,why was it in a paint shop to start with ???...then as you say was the supaguard applied ,why wasn't all theses points picked up on the PDI ???... i'd reject the car ,take it back ..as guaranteed it will never be as it left the factory ,you'll always find bits they missed ...the dealer will then try to make you feel guilty as he already appears to be doing ...you'll then hate the car and fiats ...don't bother with the stress bin it ...sorry to be sooo negative ,but the car doesn't sound right ,,and i wouldn't trust a dealer that can't fit number plates and is quiet happy to give out a car in that state ..also he will hope to wear you out by the 60 mile journey to them

Hi there. I'm not a Fiat owner as yet, looking into getting one. So I'm trawling the forums beforehand.

With ref to your problem. Could it be that its the Supagard itself thats the problem? It sounds like its been applied over your windows. It's unlikley that the car was near another when it was sprayed as this is strictly controlled. I would do as the gentlemen advises and change it.

Also don't bother with Supergard its a rip off. My partner had it on her car. We later found that ALL dealers mark this up by at least £100. You can get it cheaper from 3rd parties. However its really only good for about 3 months. I have done a lot of research into this and its all about the application, if its wrong then its useless, or on your case possibly damaging. My advice is there are other products on the market that are just as good, just requires elbow grease!

Autoglym extra gloss protection £6. good stuff. Car Lack 68 Nano systematic car and new paint polish. Fantastic and used by professionals at car shows. Non rubbing which you would need for a new car with new paint. Bit harder to source, but basically the equivalent of SuperGuard and about £15 each, Big difference.

Hi, we have never bought a new car and i guess we just got caught up in the excitement. I have looked in the service book and found a section for a pre delivery service. Should this of been filled in? it hasnt been stamped or anything so im wondering if it was inspected before we drove it away. The dealer told my husband we were lucky as someone had cancelled their order thats why it was available. It had the extras we wanted, black paint, chrome mirrors and tinted rear windows. Thinking it probably was too good to be true. Still love it though and am determined not to let this experience put me off them. Will we have the same rights as if we had waited the 12 weeks? it was only registered on the 1st and with having to pay for the supagard treatment we didnt want we have paid more than book price for it. Any advice would be appreciated. We traded in for the scrappage deal so we also didnt qualify for the 3 year servicing that is being offered with the 500's.

    hi

once had a car in a paint shop once ( sisters elderly neighbour reversedout his driveway across the road in to my sisters driveway and hit my car !!!!)  was in a merc bodyshop  and when i got it back the whole offside was covered in overspray ,and when trying to buff it off ,they then burnt the paint ...unfortunately not all companies ,are as professional and as competent as common sense would predict ...like you i have never bothered with supaguard ...it's probably good stuff  and does as it says on the tin ,but as you said ,there's the mark up ,and do they apply it properly ??? i just wash and polish my car on a regular basis

are you definetely buying a fiat ? ..if so what model are you after ??  you'll find a lot of info on here ref dealer satisfaction / non satisfaction ,and general issues with the models good and bad

Hi !   I do feel so sorry for you and the disappointment you have already experienced.  I would register your issue with Customer Services on 0800 3428 0000 as well as making strong representations to the dealer concerned.  I think it is a back handed move to flog a car that has been rejected because of the defects to an unsuspecting customer.  That said, perhaps your dealer didnt know when was sold it.

Let us know how you get on and don't stand no nonsense from the dealer !  Good luck

Cadbury has Supaguard and I think it is great.  Perhaps you can get a third party to apply Supaguard but then you have no come back on the dealer if anything goes wrong (and it is done inside and out).  And yes... the dealer will always reduce the price if you haggle.  I also use the Supaguard anti acid rain shampoo too as well as Meguire Carnabu wax.

I would strongly advise you too reject the car !, no matter how much your heart tells you to keep this vehicle, don,t !  Phone fiat and tell them you are taking the car back to the dealers and rejecting it, then let the dealer sort it out. if you keep the car you will regret it, you may have to wait a bit longer for one, but save yourself the heartache and hassel. and tell them you want a to reject the car and get a refund for all monies paid.and buy the car from your local dealership.  i hope it all works out for you, if you need to talk to somebody that knows all the ins and outs of this sort of thing, phone your local trading standards, they should be able to help you resolve this situation before it gets out of hand. good luck

Hi just thought id let you know what happened at the garage. Well we drove the 120 mile round trip to the dealer who looked at the spray marks on the car and he agreed it needed sorting so we were given a courtesy car and told to come back in 4 hours. We arrived back and was told that it was sorted out and that it was the protective cover spray they use when they are transported to england. I think it needed some special remover on it. Well we went to collect it only to find it was gone from windows but not the chrome or paintwork. After being told its just dust we finally got someone else to examine it and the valeter was called. He took it back and cleaned it properly and with my husband watching supagard was applied. I must add the bloke who did the the cleaning was a real credit to the garage. He listened and understood our concerns. He really had the customer care the management and salesmen didnt. He expained about them coming with the protective spray for shipment and that its a real problem trying to remove it on the 500's. Well while we waited my hubby had a sneaky look at the others in the showroom and found they all had some on them.  Were alot happier now. My little car looks amazingly shiny and the spray marks are gone. Were happier now knowing that it has definately had supagard applied. Didnt really get an apology or anything for the inconvenience or stress caused. Oh we asked about how to get eco drive working as all we get is error 10 and was told only one persons been on course and he was off work and that its a gimmick anyway, he just drives with his foot to floor all the time. Dont recall being told it was gimmick before we bought it and not happy a saleman who may of  been driving our car is proud to drive like that! Before we handed over our money it was a selling point and worth the money. Oh well were going to ring fiat uk to try and sort the eco drive out. Read somewhere it wont work new version of blue & me. Im just over the moon it wasnt a really bad problem and that i get to keep it. Think the dealer should check the spray is 100% removed before selling them though. Especially as im sure the supagard cant be applied properly with it on. x
