Hi all, I hope someone may be able to answer my question. My girlfriend has a 56 plate Grande Punto and it has been great since she got it. Recently though when she tries to start it, it immediately stalls (this is before she tries to set off or move it). The only time it doesn't happen is when she's been using it that day and comes back to it a few hours later but when it's been left overnight thats when the stalling problem occurs. Does anyone else know what this may be? We've not had chance yet to take it into a garage. Cheers, Videozvideoz

hello,
i to have a 56 reg but have only owned the car for just 2 years .my car wont start of a morning but once started will run ok for rest of day . since owning the car it has already been recalled twice and my fiat garage dont seem bothered when i ring
hi sarahjane
does your fault occur in cold mornings when the car hasn't been used for 2 days or so ???? my car done this once last year and once last month ...being a mechanic with no tools at home i called one of the roadside services ,as i reckonedmy battery was dodgy....they turned up and told me my timing belt had broke ,which i thought was odd ..long story short i got it towed to my work and ehhhh jump started it ..i think below a certain voltage the engine ecu etc close down ...get them the next time they are test the battery ....
if they have a OBD reader also get them to check for errors and that the crank sensor is working ,another favourite is dampness in the plugs .
last bit ,how do they get the car started ????
Hi, I have also got a 56 plate grande punto and i'm having the same problem. I have changed the battery, some part on the cooling system and also new spark plugs - however this has not worked. Also i am having problems with the temperature, as soon as the car finally starts the temp gauge rises to half way and doesnt really move from this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you
hi gem
your faults sounds as though the engine temp system is at fault ,as the engine ecu will use the temp of the engine coolant ,to decide if it needs to use the choke for starting ...with your car always reading normal operating temp ,then you will have problems starting , it could be the sender ,the wiring.or the ecu ,unplug the sender ,switch on the ignition and see what it now reads .if it reads cold or hot try a new sender ,if it is still midway ,you would need to check the wiring from the ecu to the sender ,to see if it is shorting
