Hi there, if you find out what it is please let us know. There seems to be quite a few "clunking cars" out there !!

this sounds exactly the same problem as I've had with my Bravo. Mine has been back to the dealers 5 times in 3 months for a total of 10 days. They have replaced numerous components and have had Fiat work on the car on at least two of those occasions. Bottom line is that they don't really know what the precise problem has been. After 5 visits, the problem is still there, albeit not nearly as bad as it was before. Sometimes in fact it can't be heard, but just when you think it's gone away, it reappears.
There have been a few reports now of this problem so Fiat really need to be working on a fix. It may be an idea for your dealer to contact my dealer to discuss what they have done to rectify- Parks of East Kilbride (Braeview Place)- Good luck !
i've a question and it relates to all motor vehicle manufacturers car , bus , truck etc...prior to launch of a model they do million of miles of testing as in actual driving, over all sorts of terrain..why aren't these issues noticed then ???or are these test drivers treating the cars with kid gloves and not driving them as how the general public will...after all we joe public aren't "professional drivers " and those who are ,drive their personal cars like anyone else ,except when they are at work obviously....and if you have witnessed italians driving surely these issues would be well apparent in testing lol..as a parks buyer..can you elaborate on the last comment,as personally i think they are pretty useless myself...how old is your car ?? as i have a 06 plate and don't appear to have any issues ...will probably now try driving with my radio off to see if i hear anything....though not the best idea ,but probably the only one that will fix the problem is to fit aftermarket performance bushes......personally i think the weight at the front is too much for the bushes presently fitted, surely now after god know how many years of making cars all manufacturers should be able to make a suspension that doesn't clunk...or is it a cost issue where initaly the bushes where over engineered and now to keep costs down, the quality goes down???

Hi there,
Sounds like a kindred spirit!! Picked up my 09 Grande Punto 1.4 Active two weeks ago with 11 miles on the clock. Noticed the clunking on the way home from the dealer along with a rattle in the right hand panel somewhere and have just discovered that the fog light and reverse light lenses are on the wrong sides so I am now driving a very noisy car that is in effect illegal as it would not pass an MOT. Worth getting into debt for?
Been back to dealer (not a Fiat dealer) to be told lights are a warrenty issue, nothing to do with them, clunking was acceptable (!!!) and they could not hear the very obvious rattle according to their deaf mechanic. Rang the local Fiat dealer to be told that the lights were a pre-delivery inspection issue and nothing to do with them. Have yet to broach the subject with them of the clunk and rattle.
Already dread getting in the car every day, is this how you are supposed to feel when you pick up your new pride and joy?
I have since looked into a few forums and the noisy suspension does seem to be an issue. Maybe we should be giving Watchdog a buzz, I'm sure they would love to hear our tales of woe.
(Wish I'd gone for the nice shiny Skoda Fabia now)

hi
obviously the supplying dealer never carried out the p.d.i...did you receive a copy of the P.D.I ?? yes the lights are a warranty issue the dealer is correct in that ,though he is meant to pick it up and rectify the issue...yes someone in the factory has made a mistake ...but that's what the p.d.i is for to find any factory mistakes and rectify them, and fiat then pay the dealer for the work carried out ...so with the dealer saying it has nothing to do with them is ----------- put your own word in) it's dealers like them that give fiat a bad name and i hope fiat look in to this..afterall fiat pay dealers to carry out PDI's and i'm not so sure they are always done ...after all it's a new car shouldn't be anything wrong with it lol...and 1 dealer appears to think it's nothing to do with them...have they noticed the FIAT sign on their premises...i'd find another dealer, that understand the meaning of being a dealer
How disappointing for you !
Was it a supplied by a broker or a Fiat dealer ?
Two suggestions (surprised Phil didn't say this) (1) return it and demand your money back (2) contact FiatUK 00800 3428 0000
Keep in touch
Dear fazerlass
Howdy,
I had the same problem with the clunking noise going over bumps from my 58 plate GP Eleganza before Christmas.
Took it in to my main dealer, and after they changed the front suspension all has been ok.
I got a 58 plate GP Sporting back in November and could hear a "clunking" on nearside. mentioned on a post earlier. Wasnt sure if it low profile tyres and the sports suspension. Today i booked it for its 1st 18,000 service and see what they say. I "tend" not to notice it now as i a - always have radio/music on - b - it has bugged itself ou.
Keep you informed
