Hundreds of people visited the British Airways London Eye between 24 January and 3 February to configure their own unique Fiat 500 in our special design competition. Top prize was the chance to win the designed car, and five runner-up prizes of a Champagne trip in one of the Eye’s flight capsules were also up for grabs.
Judging the competition proved a difficult task, but the winners have now been announced by London’s Design Museum.
Donna Loveday – head of exhibitions at the Design Museum – selected the winning artists’ stunning designs, which are shown below along with her expert opinion on each of the entries.

The Fiat 500 winning design
Cars in a silver finish are currently very popular, but Duncan’s combination of the colour azure with the addition of a chequered flag on the roof turns this into a smart and sporty city car. A range of options are offered with consideration given to interior and exterior detail.
The Champagne Capsule winners
A near winner – green with the Italian flag stripe and black sun roof makes clear reference to Fiat’s Italian design heritage.
The colour yellow combined with a black chequered flag on the roof turns this into a bright and very funky car, for those drivers who want to opt for something a little unconventional.
A clever combination of blue with the Italian flag stripe creates a very attractive car.
The colour blue with the addition of a white stripe and the number 5 immediately gives the car strong sporting associations.
The subtle combination of black with a front stripe creates a very smart city car. A range of options are given, including automatic climate control.

I am so happy to have won this gorgeous little car!, guess i missed my vocation in life so if Fiat ever need a new head of design they know who they can call!!
These new 500's are cool, i would never really enter competitions but was so passionate about this car launch that the London eye gig caught my eye, i never thought i would win but now i have im just so excited!!!.
I will be so proud to cruise around in a car that has won a design competition that has been selected against such strong contenders!!.
I would like to thank the staff at Fiat, i have only had a couple of telephone conversations but they are such nice people and if they treat their paying customers even half as well as they have me they should get 100% for customer service!, i really am over the moon to have won this Fiat 500 and thankyou so very much for the oppertunity to enter!!!.
My Dad bought one of the original 500's when they first came out and later a 600 too, he has allways said that he had more fun in those little cars than any car since, so i guess it will be like father, like son!!!.
I will keep regular checks on this forum and who knows, maybe after a while i will trade in the 1.3 multijet for a 500 Abarth!!, or maybe i will be extra lucky and design one of those too!!
